KSDK -- The Hazelwood School District Board of Education has approved the hiring of three new elementary school principals for the fall school year. They are Dr. Jen Vito, Dr. Rhonda Ely and Matthew Phillips.
The three begin their new positions on July 1. They are filling positions left vacant by retirements.
Vito will be the new principal of McNair Elementary School. She is currently sixth grade principal at Hazelwood Northwest Middle School. She joined the Hazelwood School District (HSD) in 1999.
Vito earned her educational doctorate from Maryville University, a master's degree from Lindenwood University in educational administration and a bachelor's degree in early childhood education from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Ely will become the new principal at Larimore Elementary School. At present, she's the eighth grade principal at Hazelwood Central Middle School. Ely began teaching in the HSD at Keeven Elementary School in 1999. She's earned her educational doctorate at Maryville University, a master's degree in educational administration from Lindenwood and a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Phillips serves as an area coordinator for the St. Louis County Special School District. He will become principal of Brown Elementary School. He's taught first grade, gifted and talented students and special education classes. Phillips is pursuing a doctorate at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He's earned his master's degree and bachelor's degree from UMSL.
