KSDK -- A former official with the St. Louis County Housing Authority was indicted for misappropriation of government money, U.S. Attorney Richard Callahan said Thursday.
A federal grand jury indicted 38-year-old Katisha Simmons on one count of misapplication of government funds.
According to the indictment, Simmons directed $30,000 in unauthorized payments to her friend's landlord account with the SLCHA. Those funds, intended to help subsidize housing for low-income residents, were provided via the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
If convicted, Simmons could be sentenced to 10 years in prison and face an additional $250,000 fine. Restitution of the stolen funds is also mandatory.
