KSDK -- The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department is investigating a likely murder-suicide that claimed the lives of a Troy, Missouri, man and his estranged girlfriend.
Rafe Wagner, 28, and Kimberly Smith, 20, died as a result of single gunshot wounds to the head, according to Detective Shayne Duryea. Investigators believe Wagner killed Smith before turning the gun on himself.
Duryea says the bodies were found early Monday morning, in the Ashley Estates Subdivision just east of Troy. Investigators say family members found the bodies of two people inside the foyer of a home on Autumn Oaks Drive.
Duryea says no one had heard from Smith since about 3 a.m. Saturday, which is when investigators believe the murder-suicide took place. Wagner's Glock pistol was found near the bodies.
Investigators say Wagner had just completed corrections officer training to go to work for the Missouri Department of Corrections in Bowling Green. Wagner was married and separated from his wife about a year ago.
