KSDK -- On May 24, 1969, workers prepared the Spanish International Pavilion for a large dedication ceremony in St. Louis.
The structure won the Gold Medal for "Most Outstanding Building" at the 1964 World's Fair in New York and was subsequently purchased by the city of St. Louis in an attempt to draw tourists to the city. The city spent $6 million on the project.
After bankruptcy in 1976, the Pavilion was remodeled and expanded into the Breckenridge Inn. In this archive video NewsChannel 5 reporter John Auble discusses the building's 20 year anniversary while it was the Marriot Pavilion in 1989.
Currently, the Hilton-St. Louis at the Ballpark East operates where the Spanish International Pavilion once stood.
