West Frankfort, IL (KSDK) -- All lanes on Interstate 57 have reopened following a fiery crash in a southern Illinois freeway construction zone that left two people dead.
The accident took place about 2 p.m. on I-57 north of West Frankfort. Seven vehicles were involved in the chain reaction accident, among them three tractor-trailers and a van.
Two people were killed in the wreck. One of the victims was driving a tractor trailer transporting car batteries. The other driver killed was behind the wheel of an ashpalt semi-truck.
Other non-life threatening injuries were reported at the scene.
The northbound lanes reopened around 10:50 p.m.
