St. Louis (KSDK)-- Traffic is flowing again stretch of Interstate 55 in South St. Louis city and County.
The Missouri Department of Transportation closed I-55 from River City Boulevard to Broadway in both directions Friday night to demolish two pedestrian bridges.
The road was expected to be closed until Monday, but crews finished work way ahead of schedule. Southbound I-55 reopened at 3:45 p.m. Saturday. The Northbound lanes reopened at 5:00 p.m.
The demolition work is part of a project that includes replacing four bridges between Lindbergh and South Broadway. Crews are also upgrading lighting on the highway and signals at Loughborough.
