St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - St. Louis Rams wide receiver Mark Clayton will miss the remainder of the season because of a knee injury that will require surgery.

Clayton was hurt during Sunday's game against Detroit and said after the contest that a season-ending procedure for the patella tendon was expected.

"(He) obviously will have surgery on his knee," said Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo. "He's got a torn patella, so that's unfortunate for us."

Mark Clayton dropped to the ground after running a deep pass route down the left sideline and immediately grabbed for the knee. He stayed down for several minutes before being carted off and did not return.

Acquired from Baltimore just before the start of the season when the Ravens picked up T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Clayton has 23 receptions for 306 yards with two scores in five games.

The former Oklahoma product had spent each of his first five seasons in the league with the Ravens and caught 234 passes for 3,116 yards and 12 touchdowns over 76 games, 59 of them starts, for Baltimore.
