CNN -- Portland Rescue Mission is coming under fire for declining an offer to collect winter coats for the homeless.
The offer came from the organizers of a gay-lesbian Christmas show in Portland.
Reverend Chuck Currie, a homeless advocate, wants to bring both sides together to help those in need. "Portland Rescue Mission needs to understand why this is offensive to some people, and the gay and lesbian community needs to be able to work with Portland Rescue Mission and other agencies in our community that are providing such critically-needed services during the cold winter months," said Reverend Chuck Currie, a homeless advocate.
The head of Portland Rescue Mission says the decision to turn down the offer was not anti-gay.
