Augusta, MO (KSDK) -- A truck fire in Augusta that left one man severely injured also sparked a massive manhunt.

Firefighters were called to Highway 94 and Jackson Road around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

When they arrived they found a truck engulfed in flames and a man lying nearby with severe burns to his, arms, legs chest and face. Injuries so severe he had to be airlifted to a hospital.

St. Charles County Sheriff's deputies said the fire was so intense they initially suspected a mobile meth lab was to blame. But they said the damage to the truck was so extensive they don't know what caused the fire.

Deputies also received a report that a man ran from the truck into the woods. That sparked a massive manhunt, but the search turned up nothing.
