St. Louis (KSDK)-- Missouri Department of Transportation crews have been working around the clock since the snow began to fall and they are making progress.
You can see pavement on all the interstates, including I-270.
It has taken crews longer than in recent previous snows to clear the roads because the snow just kept coming down, according to MoDOT spokesperson Larry Doelling.
Newschannel 5 reporter Ryan Dean says at least nine inches had fallen in O'Fallon, Missouri by 6:00 a.m. and eight inches of snow fell in St. Charles County by 5:00 a.m.
Viewers report more than 15 inches of snow in Jennings.
NewsChannel 5 Meteorologist Scott Connell said only a few inches of snow had fallen in south St. Louis.
A spokesperson for the City of St. Louis Streets Department said they hope to have the roads clear later this morning.
MoDOT wants drivers to avoid going out if possible. If you must go out, alter your travel time to cut down on the number of cars on the roads during the morning commute while plows are still trying to clear the roads.
Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt. Al Nothum said they have been busy responding to crashes and cars that slid off the road, but so far there have been no serious accidents. The patrol have received 230 calls overnight.
Sgt. Nothum said I-55 near Arnold and I-70 in St. Charles were two areas where they have received a large number of calls.
If you slide off the road call 911 or *55 to help. Do not get out of your car. Try to move it to the side of the road or off of it so it is not in traffic.
Bruce Pettus, MoDOT maintenance superintendent for the St. Louis area, said more than 450 employees and 220 trucks, including 13 tow plows, are tackling any weather-related road problems in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. The tow plows can cover more than two lanes with only one truck and driver.
