St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - St. Louisans have a long way to go to get over the winter blues. NewsChannel 5 is here to inject a little spring into your step.

Forget the ice under your feet, and heavy coats and hats. But spring is year-round at the Missouri Botanical Garden in Forest Park. Birds chirping, flowers blooming - now that's spring.

"It's very tropical feeling," said visitor Kaitlyn Howley.

After days of snow and slush, there will be nothing but happy thoughts at the Orchid Show.  Hundreds of orchids are in bloom at the Missouri Botanical Garden.

"The smell in here: it's just so tropical. It's so warm and so sunny. It just kind of brings a little light to your spirit," said Theresa Howley.

Perhaps one of the most popular symbols of spring is the butterfly.

"We'll have upwards of 200 different types of species throughout the year. At any given time, anywhere from 15 to 50," said Glenn Frei with the St. Louis Zoo.

Butterlies take flight freely inside the butterfly wing at the St. Louis Zoo. They thrive in the balmy tropical temperatures of 75 degrees on up, a paradise for visitors.

"Warm and beautiful. And seeing all the colors, flowers, especially if you haven't seen flowers in probably two months," said St. Louis Zoo Visitor Angela Haught.

After spring comes summer. Some St. Louisans aren't waiting to splash into summer fun. There's an indoor water slide and hot tubs at the Carondelet Park Rec Complex. Steamy fun for all ages.
