Clinton County, IL (KSDK) - St. Louis may have been invaded by pesky cicadas, but would you rather have Japanese beetles who destroy vegetation and crops?

On July 1, 2006, Clinton County in Illinois was invaded by Japanese beetles, which eat from the top down, leaving brown leaves and many holes. It was enough to destroy plants and vegetation while damaging even large trees.

For the second year in a row, Clinton County farmers had to watch as their crops were simply eaten away.

NewsChannel 5's Jeff Small reports.
