Denver, CO (KUSA) - The family of a soldier shot and killed outside of a motel over the weekend spoke to the public Tuesday.

Denver Police said Army Sgt. Anthony Silva was shot several times while walking along Paris Street near 38th Avenue along Interstate 70 in northeast Denver on Saturday morning.

Witnesses reported seeing a couple of individuals chasing Silva before he was gunned down.

A family friend says Silva was waiting for family to come to Denver and drive him home to Illinois because he had trouble flying his dog and cat out of Denver International Airport.

"He was a wonderful boy. A wonderful man and a proud service man. He was looking forward to a brand new start. He had his whole life ahead of him and it was stolen from him and from us," said Dave Silva, Anthony's father.

Silva had been recently discharged from the Army.

"He was coming home - he had such plans to start his life as a civilian. And now it's the end instead of a new beginning," said Diane Silva, Anthony's mother.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 reward if you have any information about what happened. You can remain anonymous. Please call 720-913-STOP (7867).

Silva was a 2004 graduate of Columbia High School.

Funeral arrangements are still pending.
