Fenton, Missouri (KSDK)-- NewsChannel 5 has confirmed the woman involved in a wild crash along Interstate 44 in southwest St. Louis County Thursday morning is a missing city executive from Wood River who's been missing since Monday.
Leslie Dona, 41, lost control of her car around 6:00 a.m. Thursday while driving eastbound on I-44 west of the Meramec River. The car left the highway and drove down and back up one embankment, through a chain link fence and across the south outer road, before going down a second embankment and rolling over into a drainage ditch overgrown with weeds.
Witnesses helped rescue crews to identify the location of the vehicle in the overgrown vegetation. Rescue crews then extricated the woman from the wrecked car before transporting her to the hospital with serious injuries.
Officials say Dona was first reported missing on Monday after not showing up for work. Eureka police stopped Dona earlier Thursday morning and then realized she was the missing person from Wood River.
Investigators say they spoke to Dona while she was detained in Eureka and expressed their concern.
Eureka officers released Dona who was then eastbound on I-44 near Fenton when she was involved in the crash.
