Perry County Sheriff Keith Kellerman.
PINCKNEYVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A state's attorney in southern Illinois says the Perry County sheriff accused of public indecency still has his job.
The statement from Perry County State's Attorney David Stanton on Wednesday comes a day after the Perry County Sheriff's Department said Sheriff Keith Kellerman was on leave.
Caseyville police say Kellerman and another man were arrested Friday after an officer allegedly saw them engaging in a sex act in a car.
The sheriff's department said Tuesday that a chief deputy was overseeing the department. But on Wednesday Stanton said that was incorrect and that Kellerman remains sheriff.
The sheriff's office directed calls to the state's attorney's office on Wednesday. Calls to the state's attorney's office went unanswered.
Kellerman hasn't returned repeated requests for comment. His attorney didn't return a message Wednesday.
