COLLINSVILLE, Il (AP) - A southwestern Illinois stretch of freeway soon may be named for two sisters killed in a 2007 wreck blamed on a state trooper who was speeding and texting.

The Illinois Senate on Thursday unanimously signed off on resolution that designates a St. Clair County portion of Interstate 64 between Illinois routes 4 and 158 the "Jessica and Kelli Uhl Memorial Highway." The measure now goes to the House.

Jessica Uhl was 18 and Kelli Uhl 13 when Matt Mitchell's cruiser hit their car. The Collinsville sisters died at the scene.

Authorities say Mitchell was driving 126 mph when his police cruiser crossed the median and hit the sisters' oncoming car.

Mitchell later resigned after pleading guilty to reckless homicide in a deal for 30 months of probation.
