Detroit, MI (WXYZ/CNN) - You're more likely to get struck by lightning than win the lottery, but that doesn't stop plenty of people from playing.

And with $363 million at stake in Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing, the tickets are going quickly.

So, a professor at University of Detroit-Mercy wants people to think hard about the real odds.

He staged a reality class putting the lottery odds in perspective with some other far-out prospects.

Michael Bernacchi says the odds of winning the lottery are about one in 176 million.

That makes it more likely that you'll become a professional athlete, or President of the United States.
