St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - It's been less than a week since a South County Goodwill came forward with thousands of dollars in cash. They found it in a donation box mixed in with a bunch of other things and they figured it got their by accident.
The MERS Goodwill CEO wants to get that money back to its rightful owner, but it's not such an easy process. The calls started coming right after the $14,000 discovery hit the news.
So far, 15 people think the money should be theirs.
A stack of cash was found inside a box of Christmas donations. They had been donated to the Goodwill store on Baptist Church Road. Surveillance video at the location shows two men unloading boxes from a trailer that was being pulled by a truck.
Among those claiming they should get the money is a couple who owns the trailer seen in the video. There's also a woman who thinks it initially belonged to her parents. The woman hired an estate sale company after her parents died.
The company who did the estate sale does not want the money, according to Goodwill's CEO.
The debate is now headed to a St. Louis County court, where a judge will decide.
