Joplin, MO (KSDK) - A business owner is ready for a new beginning, as Joplin marks the one year anniversary of that devastating tornado.
Getting back open for business is what many companies are focused on doing in Joplin.
The local Chamber of Commerce estimates the majority of the 553 businesses destroyed have or are in the process of reopening.
NewsChannel 5 found a cupcake business that is set to open its doors in a few weeks.
The Easton family runs Cupcakes by Liz.
Not only was the bakery destroyed, but so was the family's home, and after lots of consideration, the Eastons' decided to rebuild.
"There is a spirit of Joplin like no other. Because we did think, are we going to be able to come back? Because when a whole town is gone, you think is the town going to be able to support a local business owner. We have gotten overwhelming support from this community," said Jim Easton.
The Chamber of Commerce says nearly 40 businesses have decided not to reopen.
