St. Louis (KSDK) - A Survey USA poll conducted on behalf of NewsChannel 5 shows the majority of Missourians think Congressman Todd Akin should drop out of the Senate race.
This survey was taken after Akin's comments about rape and abortion.
Statewide, 54 percent of people say Akin should quit the race and allow another Republican to run in his place against incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill. Only 35 percent say Akin should continue his bid.
According to the survey, 76 percent of Missourians do not share the same views on rape and pregnancy as Akin, but 13 percent do, which includes 16 percent of pro-life voters, 19 percent of conservatives, and 24 percent of African Americans.
Akin apologized for his comments and claimed he misspoke, but 55 percent of Missourians do not believe that to be the case. He is also vowing not to drop out of the race.
