WARRENSBURG, Mo. (AP) - Two men have been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a western Missouri businessman.
Twenty-five-year-old William Blaine Whitworth was found dead Saturday night outside his home in Warrensburg. Whitworth owned two bars in the city.
Prosecutors on Wednesday charged 27-year-old Reginald Singletary Jr. and 23-year-old Ziyad Abid, both of Warrensburg. Both were held on $1 million bail. Online court records did not list a lawyer for either suspect.
Documents filed in Johnson County Circuit Court said Singletary told police Abid had paid him to kill Whitworth. Police did not describe an alleged motive.
The homicide was the first since 2009 in Warrensburg, which is home to the University of Central Missouri. The Missouri Rural Major Case Squad said it received more than 100 leads in the case.
