St. Louis (KSDK) - In wake of the recent jogger attack in Forest Park and the other recent violent crimes against women, NewsChannel 5 and the St. Louis Combat Institute wanted to give you some tools to help you protect yourself.
On Saturday, September 15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. join us in Tilles Park in Ladue for Self Defense Saturday. The class will be held in the north side of the park. Just follow the signs. Tilles Park is located off Interstate 64 between McKnight and Litzsinger.
This free class is open to women 18-years-old and older. Please wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes and bring plenty of water. You'll want to arrive at least 15 minutes early to find a spot to park and fill out the waivers.
The St. Louis Combat Institute teaches the ability to survive and win in stressful, dangerous and violent situations in as close to actual environments as possible, in addition to states of extreme duress, and exhaustion.
St. Louis Combat Institute's training philosophy is based on the principles and philosophy of Systema - the Russian Martial Art and Israeli Krav Maga. With these combat systems, special uniforms and belts are irrelevant. We are not fitness trainers who teach self defense.
The class will not be focused on learned stances and drills. Instead, the focus will be on teaching battle-proven skills that are quick, unsportsmanlike and lethal, and focus on a body's natural positioning and movement to be able to efficiently strike, absorb a strike, avoid and re-direct from any position.
The classes are taught by St. Louis police officers and former military and U.S. Department of Protection Specialists.
