Michael Jeter charged with driving under the influence

Belleville, IL (KSDK) - Charges have been filed against a man accused of killing a highway worker and injuring three others.

St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan F. Kelly has charged Michael Jeter of West Frankfort, Illinois with four counts of aggravated driving under the influence.

Court documents state Jeter was under the influence of diphenhydramine (an anti-histamine), Meprobamate (a sedative), and Zolpidem (Ambien) when the May 22 accident occurred.

Dennis Beard, 38, was pronounced dead at Saint Louis University Hospital.

Brian Moore, 40; Kory Links, 39; and Adam Evans, 32 were seriously injured.

If convicted, Jeter faces up to 14 years in prison.

Bond is set at $750,000.

Jeter is not yet in police custody.
