St. Louis (KSDK) - A puppy found abandoned and badly burned over the summer has been adopted.

Katie Zeidman, a spokesperson for the Humane Society of Missouri says Susan and Bill Bonan of St. Louis have been selected as the Boxer puppy's new parents.

The dog Humane Society officials named Sonny was found in June by the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force at the intersection of Martin Luther King and Hamilton in north St. Louis.

Sonny had severe burns on his face, ear, and left side of his body. He was whimpering and in excruciating pain when he was transferred to HSMO headquarters.

The abusers have not been located, and a $2,500 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) who abused Sonny. Tips can be made through the HSMO website or by calling the abuse hotline at 314-647-4400.
