St. Louis (KSDK) - It looks like the long-awaited O'Fallon Park Recreation Center will soon open in north St. Louis.
Eight years ago voters approved a tax increase to fund two state-of-the-art recreation centers: one in O'Fallon Park in north St. Louis, and the other in south St. Louis called Carondelet Center, which opened in 2009 and is run by the YMCA.
The O'Fallon Park facility stalled over funding issues.
On Monday Mayor Francis Slay announced the "Y" is partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater St. Louis to provide programs for the facility.
"It is my great hope that the alderman will get to vote this up or down but whatever the board decides we are going to open the O'Fallon Recreation Center as soon as possible," said Mayor Slay.
Under the agreement, the facility would open 90 days after being approved by the board. That means it could open as early as next year.
