Virtual career fair spotlights St. Louis job openings

St. Louis (KSDK) -- St. Louis-area college students got a chance to find discounts to area attractions, search for job openings and attend a special reception Thursday as part of the inaugural Downtown College Day.

Interactive Career Fair

The Partnership for Downtown St. Louis is hosting an interactive career fair on Twitter.  St. Louis-area companies are tweeting internship and job openings and career advice.

The tweets can be found by searching #collegeday.  Employers who want to share openings should end their tweets with the hashtag.

All employers are also encouraged to report their openings by using @downtownstlouis in their post.

Students who show a student ID can also get discounts at area restaurants and attractions from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Free Reception

The day will wrap with a free reception at City Museum on Washington Avenue from 5:30 p.m to 10:30 p.m.  Students will get a chance to register to win a free iPad, two pre-game field passes and two tickets to the December 16 St. Louis Rams game, or a one-night stay at Crown Plaza for two.  Register for the free reception online.

UPDATE

The Partnership for Downtown St. Louis calls College Day a success. More than 130 jobs have been listed as of Thursday evening. The Partnership's Twitter and Facebook accounts gained more than 300 friends and followers.

NewsChannel 5's Steve Patterson spoke to workers at Extra Help, an employment placement service. They elaborated on how to properly present yourself digitally, in a professional setting.
