St. Louis County (KSDK) - Police have linked a third incident to a serial rapist who has struck in at least four states and appears to be targeting Asian women.
The first incident happened in April 2011 near Creve Coeur. A 27-year-old woman told police she woke up to a strange man in her bedroom who covered her face and raped her.
Last month a woman was raped as she was walking home near Fee Fee Road. Both women are Asian, and their rapes have been linked by DNA.
Police Chief Tim Fitch says the serial rapist has been linked to a third incident that occurred in June 2011 in the parking lot of the apartment complex in which the April 2011 rape took place. This woman was able to fight the man off and was not raped. Police say she is of Indian descent.
Chief Fitch says the suspect described by the June 2011 victim matches the description of both the April 2011 and September 2012 rapes.
The suspect has also been linked to rapes in Maryland, New York, and San Diego. He is described as a Hispanic man around 40-years-old. He stands between 5'6" and 5'8" tall and has a medium build. He has short black hair and may have facial hair.
All of the victims have been between 18 and 28-years-old.
Chief Fitch believes there may be other victims out there. Police have some leads in the case, but nothing promising.
Anyone with information regarding the incidents should contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous, and may be eligible for a cash reward.
On Tuesday night St. Louis County Police took new steps to help women defend themselves against attackers. They hosted a town hall meeting at Parkway North High School that included training on how to fight off an attacker.
