St. Petersburg, FL (WTSP) - It's a mystery that's becoming more and more dangerous in south Florida.
There's a monkey roaming the neighborhoods of Tampa Bay, and it's actually quite famous.
It has its own Facebook page and has even been featured on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report."
But now the rhesus macaque has bitten a woman.
She wants to remain anonymous, but says she's shocked and worried for other people's safety.
"He's been here about a year and a half that we know about. But they're still wild animals. People have to realize they're still wild animals, and I feel really bad. I do not want to see the monkey shot or put down, but lately he's gotten aggressive with male teenagers male people. And the people in the neighborhood stay at a distance, but they don't realize at any given moment, he could flip," she said.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission are trying to catch the monkey.
They believe the monkey was cast out of a colony in Silver Springs, near Ocala, Florida.
