St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - The two people accused in the highly publicized murder of a former St. Louis University athlete in broad daylight are scheduled to appear in court Friday.

18 year old Keith Esters is the alleged trigger man in the shooting death of Megan Boken of Wheaton, Illinois on August 18th.  He's charged with first degree murder, attempted robbery, and armed criminal action in the case.

Ester's accomplice, Johnathan Terrell Perkins is accused of second degree murder, attempted robbery, and armed criminal action after police say he drove Esters to the Central West End to commit a robbery, then waited for Esters to serve as the getaway driver.

Investigators say Esters saw the victim talking on a cell phone while seated in her car.  Esters then confronted Boken; a former volleyball player at St. Louis University, who was in St. Louis to participate in an alumni game later that evening.

During the course of the confrontation with Boken, police say Esters tried to take the woman's property and then shot the victim twice before running to the vehicle where Perkins was waiting.

If convicted of the crimes, Esters could face the death penalty while Perkins is looking at life in prison.
