Creve Coeur, MO (KSDK) - The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged a former St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist for allegedly groping someone earlier this year, the Creve Coeur Police Department said Friday.
According to Lieutenant Jon Romas, a police spokesman, a man came to the police department on August 21 claiming he was sexually assaulted on February 22 inside a business in the 11600 block of Olive Boulevard.
The victim stated that the suspect groped him in an "intimate area" while he was waiting in line to check out.
Investigators eventually identified the suspect as 79-year-old Jerry Berger.
Prosecutors charged Berger on October 8 with two counts of first-degree sexual misconduct.
Jerry Berger, who used to pen a column for the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, joined the Post-Dispatch after the Globe-Democrat went out of business. He left the Post-Dispatch in 2004 and now writes his columns online exclusively for BergersBeat.com.
