Missouri Task Force 1 acitvated, headed to East Coast

Boone County, MO (KSDK) - Missouri Task Force 1 has been activated and is headed to the East Coast to help with storm relief.

On Monday morning, Missouri Task Force 1, Ohio Task Force 1, Indiana Task Force 1, and Tennessee Task Force 1 were put on alert. Earlier in the day, Virginia Task Force 1 and 2, along with Maryland Task Force 1 were activated, followed by Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee.

TRACK: Superstorm Sandy

Missouri Task Force 1 is a Type I team which includes 80 personnel and over 100,000 pounds of equipment and are authorized to add additional water rescue.

It is headed to Herndon, Virginia to stage and wait for their mission assignment. They are expected to arrive in Herndon by 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has put on alert Arizona Task Force 1, Washington Task Force 1, California Task Force 6, Florida Task Force 2, Colorado Task Force 1, and California Task Force 2.

The superstorm known as Sandy made landfall in New Jersey Monday night. It was downgraded from a hurricane earlier in the evening.
