St. Louis (KSDK) - Workers from the St. Louis area are part of the ongoing relief effort, from power company employees to search and rescue professionals.
An 80 person team from Missouri Task Force 1 hit the ground on Long Island Friday.
"The water has receded in that area so what they're seeing is a lot of downed trees and downed power lines, a lot of debris and then minor to moderate damage to some of the structures," said Gale Blomenkamp with the task force.
With three dozen first responders from St. Louis area fire departments, the team split-up and went door-to-door checking on survivors. Blomenkamp says the team could be deployed for up to two weeks.
More than 500 employees and contractors with Ameren are working to restore power in New Jersey.
Crews are working alongside the local power company. Ameren says its work could take seven days or more.
Ameren also says its top executives are in on the relief effort too, talking strategy on conference calls with other power companies and President Obama.
