(KSDK) - People in the St. Louis area paused to remember those who have served in the military this Veterans Day.

In St. Charles, people gathered on the riverfront for a Veterans Day ceremony.  The city and county partnered for today's event that featured Bob Murphy, a service officer at VFW Post 2886, as the keynote speaker.

In honor of Veterans Day, a memorial was dedicated in St. Ann to the men and women who have died in combat.  VFW Post 3944 sponsored the memorial and brought in a second memorial with the names of every service member killed since September 11, 2001.  Those wishing to see the memorial can stop by the post at 10815 Midland.  It will be on display through Tuesday.

In south St. Louis, one man decided to show his patriotism to those on the road.  David Martin stood on an overpass at Interstate 55 holding an American Flag.  Martin's display was his way of acknowledging the service of those in the military, including his father and brother who are both veterans.  He is hoping to make it an annual event.
