St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office charged two 21-year-old men in connection with an armed robbery and rape that occurred last week.
According to David Marzullo, spokesman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the incident happened just before 9:15 p.m. on November 21 at a home in the 3000 block of Chippewa. The victims, an 18-year-old woman, a 31-year-old man, and a 42-year-old man, said the suspects forced their way into the home at gunpoint and stole several electronics and their cell phones. The 18-year-old woman was raped during the course of the robbery.
Investigators learned a stolen 2012 VW Passat was used in course of the robbery.
Two days later, Marzullo said officers located the vehicle at the intersection of Union Boulevard and Saint Louis Avenue. The vehicle fled when officers attempted to pull the occupants over. The stolen vehicle crashed into another car at Natural Bridge Avenue and Goodfellow Boulevard. Two people got out of the car and attempted to flee on foot but were captured. Three other men stayed in the car and were taken into custody without incident. Police found a firearm and narcotics in the vehicle.
The three men that stayed in the vehicle, ages 23, 22 and 21, have not yet been charged, Marzullo said.
The two men that fled the vehicle, Leland Hughes and Shawn Borders, were identified as the suspects in the rape and armed robbery, Marzullo said.
Leland Hughes was charged with one count of first-degree burglary, three counts of first-degree robbery, 12 counts of armed criminal action, three counts of kidnapping, two counts of theft, one count of forcible rape, one count of sodomy, one count of tampering with a vehicle, and one count of resisting arrest.
Shawn Borders was charged with one count of first-degree burglary, three counts of first-degree robbery, nine counts of armed criminal action, three counts of kidnapping, two counts of theft, and one count of resisting arrest.
