(CNN) - Newt Gingrich has not completely ruled out running for president again in 2016, but the Republican Party needs to make serious changes before he'd consider it.

The former GOP presidential candidate and House Speaker told Florida's Naples Daily News that he has "no idea at this stage" about a future campaign.

Gingrich said Republicans needs to move on from Mitt Romney's loss, take a deep breath, modernize and adapt.

Gingrich rose to become a formidable opponent to Romney earlier this year but failed to win enough delegates to be considered a serious contender for the nomination.
