Chicago (WLS/CNN) - A newborn baby who was feared dead is being called a Thanksgiving miracle. Doctors in Chicago didn't think the baby boy was alive until a magical moment shocked them and the boy's parents.

Sometimes, there is so much to be grateful for.

To have doctors tell the story, one little guy was not even alive when his mother, Jocelyn Robinson, and his father, Ignacio Guzman, arrived in an ambulance at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

Robinson was suffering severe complications.

Doctors immediately did an ultrasound.

"I had to sort of be very honest with her and say: we don't have a heartbeat," said Dr. Kimberly Sampson.

She called in a second doctor.

"Another doctor came in and said, 'I'm sorry, your baby passed. We can't find the heartbeat,'" said Robinson.

"When they told me he passed away, I just started crying," said Guzman.

With Noah feared dead, the medical team wanted to save the bleeding mother, who was not surrounded by family.

The placenta had blocked her cervix, a condition called placenta previa.

Doctors began surgery when Dr. Sampson noticed the baby gasp.

"The baby did it again, and as quickly as we could possibly, I almost felt like I was throwing the baby at the nurse, like, quick, the team just responded immediately," said Dr. Sampson.

Yes, Noah was and is very much alive, weighing four pounds, 13 ounces. He is in intensive care, but he is alive.

"They told me he was alive, so it was wonderful, you know, everybody's happy, everybody's crying now, because it was life," said Guzman.

"I'm just very, very blessed that me and my son were able to come out of this situation alive," said Robinson.
