UPLANDS PARK, Mo. (KSDK) - There is now some question about whether a local police department will shut down this weekend.
A board of trustee member in Uplands Park said Wednesday he has instructed Police Chief Steve Abbington not to stop services Saturday night as planned. Three other board members voted Monday to get rid of the police department and contract with Velda City instead.
But now, Henry Iwenofu said he has filed for a permanent injunction to prevent the action. Instead, Iwenofu said he wants a St. Louis County Court lawsuit over who is board chair to be settled first.
Three other board members, Johnetta Williams, Carmen McClendon-Roberts, and Shirley Martin voted Monday to dissolve the department in a money-saving effort. Williams said Tuesday the measure would allow Uplands Park to pay down some of its debt.
But Iwenofu said he filed court action to prevent those members from acting in that capacity.
Iwenofu said the lawsuit regarding who is the board chair has been going on since August.
Williams, McClendon-Roberts, and Martin could not be reached for comment.
