ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KSDK) - The St. Clair County Board will vote on Monday whether or not to appoint Undersheriff Rick Watson as the sheriff of St. Clair County.

Watson has been the acting sheriff since longtime Sheriff Mearl Justus resigned on Tuesday.

Justus resigned due to health concerns, and would have marked his 60th year in law enforcement in May.

If the board approves Watson, he will begin the position on Tuesday.

The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the St. Clair County courthouse.
