GODFREY, Ill. (KSDK) - Madison County Illinois officials are investigating how and why a motorist lost control of a vehicle late Sunday, crashing through the front of a home and killing a man living inside the house.

Investigators say the initial call came at 10:42 p.m. Sunday about a disturbance in the 200 block of Mercury Drive in Godfrey.

Five minutes later police received a call about a vehicle that crashed into a home in the 100 block of Saturn Drive, in the same neighborhood.

Authorities learned a man involved in the first disturbance took keys and a vehicle and fled.

Not long afterwards, police say the suspect lost control and slammed into the front of the home on Saturn, killing a man inside.

Police say the driver then fled the crash scene but was quickly located in the parking lot of the Beer Barrel Pub on Montclair Avenue in Godfrey.

The victim has been identified as 73-year-old Marlin Bushnell.

The suspect was taken into custody for further questioning, and is held pending charges.
