REYNOLDS COUNTY, Mo. (KSDK) - A tragic accident -- that's how Keith Hartrum described the deaths of his son-in-law and two grandsons.

David Decareaux and his young sons were found Saturday night on an Ozark trail in Reynolds County, Missouri.

The Decareaux family had recently moved to Millstadt, Illinois. Decareaux moved here with his family to work as an information specialist with the defense information systems agency at Scott Air Force Base.

In a statement, Army Col. John McLaughlin said: "Dave was a very important member of our team, and we are deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of him and his sons. Our hearts go out to his wife and surviving children."

A retired Air Force veteran, Decareaux and his wife and five children moved to Millstadt late last year.
They had lived in Europe for ten years.

Last weekend, the family rented a cabin in Reynolds County, Missouri. Decareaux and 10-year-old Dominic and eight-year-old Grant left that morning to go hiking.

The three died from the cold; their bodies were found Sunday morning.

Keith Hartrum said David loved the outdoors, describing him as a good man, husband and father.

Visitation will be on Thursday, the funerals will be Friday at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo.
