AJ McCarron is once again getting shown up by his model girlfriend.
After Miss Alabama Katherine Webb, an Auburn grad, stole the spotlight in the BCS Championship game that saw Alabama convincingly thrash Notre Dame, the Crimson Tide quarterback now has to digest the fact that Webb will have an NFL job before he does.
Webb, who became an Internet star after ESPN's Brent Musburger made awkward comments about her beauty during the live BCS title game broadcast, sent out a tweet Monday night suggesting she'd have a TV-related role in the Super Bowl.
"So excited to be chosen to cover the Super Bowl XLVII for @InsideEdition in New Orleans!"
Webb's specific job has yet to be revealed, but "Inside Edition" is a thirty-minute syndicated news program that plans to cover the Super Bowl behind-the-scenes.
Honestly, can we really say we didn't see this coming? First comes love then comes marriage. First comes the Sports Illustrated swimsuit debut then comes the Super Bowl. If the BCS Championship taught us anything, it's that a quarterback's girlfriend can completely overshadow a football game. Someone was bound to figure out that attention on the collegiate level equates to the pros.
Ah, if we could only see McCarron's reaction.
The Twitter reaction to Webb's news was harshly predictable.
"And why do you think you got picked for that? Your talent? #OfCourseNot" one tweet read.
"Brett Musbetrger deserves thank u note, not required apology" another read.
McCarron's mother, Dee Dee Bonner had Webb's back, though.
"proud for you and ignore the jealous folks maybe one day they can host something like the loser convention or something" Bonner tweeted in support.
If Webb's tweet holds true, this is a perfect marriage. The Super Bowl is the mecca of sporting events and Webb became an overnight celebrity on the NCAA's grand stage, while using her star quarterback boyfriend's platform to become more famous than she ever did after placing in the top 10 of Miss Universe.
This story just keeps getting better. Webb's Super Bowl news comes after Musburger, who quite frankly is to blame for Webb's stardom, recently poked fun at the incident during a Kansas-Baylor basketball game, saying Holly Rowe was "really smokin" at the end of the game's broadcast.
In case you missed any Katherine Webb news over the last few weeks, we've got you covered. After my original post during the BCS Championship on ESPN's awkward moment, we had a great follow-up by Rachel George, while my colleague Chris Chase became our Webb beat writer.
