Moscow, ID (Sports Network) - Jarred Shaw poured in a game-high 27 points and
Spencer Butterfield managed a double-double as the Utah State Aggies captured
a 77-67 victory over the Idaho Vandals in a Western Athletic Conference
conflict at Cowan Spectrum.
Butterfield had 11 points to go with 10 rebounds and Marcel Davis added 16
points for Utah State (15-5, 6-4 WAC) which snapped a four-game losing streak.
Stephen Madison and Connor Hill each had 14 points to pace Idaho (8-12, 4-6)
which had won two of its previous three. Robert Harris added 13 points and
Kyle Barone chipped in 11 points to go with a team-high seven rebounds.
Both teams shot well in the opening period. Utah State hit 59.1 percent of
its shots from the floor including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc to take a 31-25
lead at the break. Idaho hung around by shooting 55.6 percent while knocking
down 4-of-7 shots from 3-point range.
The hot shooting continued for both teams in the second half. The Aggies hit
on 60 percent of their field goal attempts while the Vandals turned in a
51.7 percent effort, that included a 6-of-12 showing from 3-point range.
However the Aggies were able to hold the Vandals at bay by earning a 13-6
edge from the free-throw line.
Utah State was the dominant team up front with a 36-26 edge on points in the
paint and a 27-16 advantage in rebounds.
