CLAYTON, Mo. (KSDK) - A St. Louis County judge denied a petition filed by Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul to stop impeachment proceedings from moving against him.

The impeachment trial will go forward, but Mayor Adam Paul could still appeal the ruling.

The Ellisville mayor's defense team argued the impeachment process was unconstitutional.

The Ellisville City Council and Mayor Paul have been at odds since his election almost a year ago. Paul ran on a pledge to oppose financial aid for a planned Walmart store.

The city council has accused the mayor of revealing confidential financial information, and drinking and using profanity while in office.
