ST. LOUIS (KSDK)
- South city resident Nancy Nesselhauf remembers the Flood of '93 as the worst time in her life.
The River Des Peres, a tributary to the Mississippi River, was cresting just yards from her home. She surrounded her house with hundreds of sand bags and moved out all of her furniture.
The afternoon of July 20, 1993, the levee outside her home broke.
Strangers who had come to Field Street to gawk at the rising river immediately jumped in to help. Men furiously started trying to repair the break with sandbags. They successfully plugged the leak and saved Nancy's home.
Nancy spoke to NewsChannel 5 that day 20 years ago and sat down with us again as we look back at the Flood of '93. See her story in the video player above.
