St. Charles (KSDK) -- The westbound span of the Blanchette Bridge reopened to traffic Friday morning, nearly 3 months ahead of schedule.
The span had been closed since November 2012. Crews demolished the old westbound span, and replaced it with a new bridge.
During construction, the eastbound span carried 3 lanes of traffic in each direction. The area experienced occasional traffic backups, especially during the morning and evening commutes.
While the westbound span is now reopen to traffic, MoDOT cautions drivers to expect lane closures near the Blanchette Bridge for the rest of August.
The total cost of the project was $64 million.
