Bellefontaine Neighbors, MO (KSDK)- The Bellefontaine Neighbors community gathered on Saturday night, one week after a beloved gas station owner was shot and killed.
Neighbors, former neighbors, and employees gathered for an intimate farewell to 63 year old Irshad Kahn. They gathered in the parking lot of the Conoco gas station he owned on Bellefontaine Road and Shepley to share memories and prayers of the man who was a staple in the community.
"He was honestly one of the best bosses I ever worked for, very kind, caring, he always told me I was just like a son to him," said Josh Wellmon, a former employee.
Police say 28-year-old Justin Lovel Williams shot and killed Kahn in his office last Saturday night. Now Williams is behind bars charged with his murder.
Family and friends say Kahn knew Williams and his family. His brother is one of Kahn's former employees. Williams was a regular customer and was in the gas station on Saturday night applying for a job.
"He wanted me to work that night and told me not to because he found somebody else who could work. I kind of wish I would have been here instead of this other guy because it never would have happened," said Wellmon.
"We are going to miss him. It's a big loss for us and we are very much thankful for the community who came here to show their sympathy. It shows how much they love him, said Fnu Misbha, Kahn's family friend.
"I just want the family to have peace" said Wellmon.
Williams is being held on a one million dollar bond.
