SHREWSBURY, Mo. (KSDK) - Police in Shrewsbury say an earlier reported incident about a woman attempting to walk away with a couple's child was all a misunderstanding.
According to Lt. Lisa Vargas, a spokeswoman for the Shrewsbury Police Department, the incident occurred Wednesday, August 14 at 8 p.m. near the Festival Pavilion at Wehner Park.
The couple was standing near the pavilion patio with their two-year-old son when a woman approached them, took the child's hand and started leading him away from his parents. The child's mother noticed this immediately and called out to the woman, but the woman kept walking way with the child.
Vargas said the child's mother ran after the woman, grabbed her and got the child back. The woman who took the child apologized and walked off into the parking lot.
The couple reported the incident to police after hearing media reports about an attempted abduction at a bus stop in Ellisville.
The woman in question saw this story during Tuesday's edition of 'First @ 4' and reached out to Shrewsbury police. She told them she was working in a concession stand at the park and said the little boy appeared to be on his own. She got the boy with the intention of helping him find his parents when she was confronted by the boy's mother.
Shrewsbury police told NewsChannel 5 they looked into the matter and confirmed the woman had no ill intent and this was all a misunderstanding.
