ALTON, Mo. (KSDK) - The Springfield, Ill. priest who achieved web notoriety after a bizarre 911 call is being sent to work as a chaplain to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George in Alton.
The incident happened last year, when police say Father Thomas Donovan was in handcuffs and wearing a mask with a gag when they arrived at the church.

He has since been on leave and seeing a therapist. The Catholic Diocese of Springfield said in a letter released in January that Donovan was practicing non-sexual self-bondage, or administering some form of physical self-restraint for the purpose of reducing stress or tension build-up without sexual arousal.
Donovan's new position in Alton begins this Sunday, and is intended to serve as a "gradual return to ministry."
