ALTON, Ill. (KSDK) - Three out of four child car seats are not used correctly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Auto accidents are also the leading cause of death for kids between the ages of 1 and 12, the Centers for Disease Control reports.
A Madison County-based non-profit group is offering local parents a chance to get their car seats installed for free on consecutive Fridays as part of Child Passenger Safety Week.
Riverbend Head Start & Family Services is hosting the first event Friday, September 20 at the Essic Robinson Head Start Center, and a second event on September 27 at the Granite City North Head Start Center.
Certified child passenger seat technicians will be on hand both days to examine car seats to make sure they're properly installed and that they're the right size for a child's age and size.
