NEW YORK (CNN) - A "Wheel of Fortune" contestant landed on the hard-to-reach $1 million wedge, and though he knew the answer. But he didn't win the prize.
That's because producers say Paul Atkinson mispronounced it. All he had to do was solve the clue, and there was only one letter missing from the three-word phrase, "corner curio cabinet."
But when Atkinson said the phrase it came out like "corno curro cabinet." Viewers disagreed with angry tweets, saying Atkinson got robbed, but he says he's getting over it.
"My best friend in the world, Alan Perry, came with me and I was so upset with myself that we took off from the venue and we got to the first bar and he said we need some tequila over here, but he helped me out, we got through it and some tequila and a $5 craps table in Vegas helped out," said Atkinson.
Reporter: "And you won, right?"
"I won like $2,000," said Atkinson.
Atkinson says he had never seen or heard the word before. He says he was so stressed out about pronouncing the word that he said it wrong.
